Description : Yacht Pond
Early in 1911 the Town Council decided that the town should have a yacht pond as model yacht building was a thriving business at the time. The pond was to be 130ft long by 50ft broad and to be situated on the foreshore near McIver’s boat hiring slip at the west bay. The cost would be £425. Another proposal was that the pond should be built at the Meadows where it could be used in the winter as a skating pond but this proposal was rejected though it was hoped that another two ponds would be built at a later date, one in the Meadows and one at the East Bay. The West Bay yacht pond was broken up in the early 2000s when it became dangerous. (P03-0390, A2.123)
