The Healtheries were established in 1905, on Canada Hill, by the Kerr Brothers who ran a restaurant in Glasgow. Originally started as boarding house and camp for young men based on a regime of exercise and simple living though it did have a library, reading room and billiards room. Guests were encouraged to bring their own musical instruments and weekly concerts were staged. After several years families were encouraged to come to enjoy the outdoor life. The remains of the buildings can still be found in a field below what had been the Co-operative Camp, a site now occupied by the Roseland Holiday Park today. There had been another holiday camp in Rothesay, the Bungalow Camp on Westlands
Road opened in 1919 but by December of that year the company was bankrupt and the camp was closed. (Rothesay),
