Object: Rothesay to Ettrick Bay Tramway
Date: 20th century
Description : The electric tramway was a popular way to reach Ettrick Bay from 1902 to 1936. The original tram track ran from Rothesay to Port Bannatyne, originally with horse drawn cars and opened in 1882 but the line was electrified and extended to Ettrick Bay in 1902. The original intention was to build a line to Kilchattan Bay but that was never adopted. The track ran along a cut at the back of the playing fields at Port Bannatyne, which can still be seen today, and then ran down the side of the boatyard where the scout hut is today before rejoining the road. This photograph shows that section. (P03-1421, A6.140) (Transport)
