There are many memorials on the island to the men and women who died in both World War I and World War II. This one, which was in Rothesay Public School of High Street, was unveiled on the 11 April 1957 by Lady Bute, the wife of the 6th Marquis of Bute at an evening reception attended by invited guests. It combines a simple memorial to the dead of both world wars, though not named, as well as an additional plaque listing the previous headmasters of the school from the 17th to the 20th century. As with the memorial in Rothesay Academy it was the Former Pupils’ Association who raised the money to pay for the plaque. The memorial can now be seen in the entrance hall of the Joint Campus.
