Object: Pewter Communion Cup
Date: 18th Century
Description: Pewter communion cup, one of a pair. The cups are inscribed ‘Associate Congregation Rothesay 1786’ and there is also a flagon similarly inscribed. Rothesay is often written as ‘Rothsay’ on early items but in this case ‘Rothseay’ was probably a mistake by the engraver. The Museum’s collection of church vessels includes pewter from Mountstuart, Chapel of Ease and Kingarth
Origin: A collection of items was received from the family of the Rev William Galbraith who was the Minister at Bridgend church from 1888-1922. His congregation obviously thought a great deal of him because the collection also included a number of presentation gifts.
