Object: Oil Painting of St Blane’s Chapel
Date: 19th c
Description: This oil over pencil painting was done by Horatio McCulloch (1805-1867) who was one of Scotland’s best-known Victorian landscape painters. He visited Bute in the early 1830s. It is probable that he painted this picture on the spot. It depicts the ruins of St Blane’s Church with Arran in the background.
Origin: The painting was transferred from the RSM to Bute Museum c 1950.
