Description: A 1917 penny mounted in a frame and gilded. It was presented to Provost James McMillan. The inscription reads ‘Rothesay Harbour Trust. First Toll taken at Pier turnstile 2.4.17. Paid by James McMillan Provost’
Origin: From April 1917, every passenger landing and embarking on Rothesay Pier had to pay one penny at the turnstiles. Turnstile dues were abolished in 1965 when they were added to the price of the ferry ticket.
