Object: Kingarth Communion Token

Date: 18th century

Description: Communion token with KG for Kingarth and the date 1709. It is blank on the back. The Parish of Kingarth covered the south end of the island and the Kirk Session for Kingarth were responsible for deciding who should receive a token and be allowed to take the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper.

Origin: The Museum’s collection of communion tokens includes tokens for Kingarth and Rothesay Parish and also for separate churches such as the Gaelic Church of Rothesay and the Chapelhill Free Church
