Craigmore Pier was constructed in 1877 of iron, but this corroded so badly that the pier was closed and sold in 1888. The
iron piles were replaced with wooden ones and the pier reopened to steamer traffic. Passenger numbers dropped after the
First World War and the last passenger steamer used the pier in 1939. It was officially closed in 1940. If you missed the
boat at Rothesay Pier you could hire a cab to race the boat out to Craigmore Pier and board there. (P20-0008, A2.308)
