Description : Bute Museum
The Bute Museum collection was housed in the house at the top of Chapelhill until the Marquis of Bute acquired the old Aquarium building in Battery Place in 1907 (later to become the baths and then Beattie Court). He paid for the renovations and added to the collection. Three curators were employed, both to run the Museum and undertake research, their salaries being paid by the Marquis. The building included a dedicated library that served as a meeting room for the Buteshire Natural History Society until the building was sold in the early 1920s. This photograph shows one of the galleries including a fountain.
