Object: Brass Plate

Description: Brass Plate from Willie Dickie’s Soor Dook cart. Soor dook is the Scottish name for buttermilk, the sourish liquid left over after the butter is separated out from the milk. It was popular both for drinking and making the Scottish staple baking items of pancakes and scones. The horse-drawn soor dook cart was a familiar sight around the streets of Rothesay right up to the 1950s. It came from Cranslagvourity Farm near Ettrick Bay
Origin: Brass plate from the cart which is now in the Riverside Museum Glasgow. The Museum also has a pair of brass taps which were the spare ones from the barrels.
