Object: Bottle of Jordan Water

Description: A clear glass bottle from Bute Medical Hall containing ‘Water from Jordan brought by J King
Hewison 1909’. It is topped with an olive wood stopper.
Origin: James King Hewison was minister of the High Kirk in Rothesay. In 1893 he published the first of
two volumes of ‘Bute in the Olden Time’. In 1909 he made a trip to the Holy Land and he used the
Jordan water he collected there at baptisms in Rothesay.
