Description : Birdie Bowers was a lieutenant in the Royal Indian Marines who lost his life in the Scott Antarctic Expedition on the return from the South Pole in March 1912. His mother and sister stayed in Rothesay and he did some of his training for the expedition while staying with them. A memorial plaque can be seen in the Museum which originally hung in St Ninian’s Church (P03-4091, A5.238)
