Pageants on Bute were quite common occurrences and this one was titled the Rothesay Carnival and Festival of the Sea and took place in August 1949.  The tour began at McIver’s slip in front of the Pavilion when Queen Brenda of the Brandanes disembarked from the from a Viking longboat accompanied by a group of Vikings.  Queen Brenda and her entourage paraded through the town, through Craigmore and Ascog, where she was presented with flowers before visiting the Salvation Army Home at Balmory House.  They continued out to Kerrycroy where this photo was taken before going round the rest of the island by way of Kingarth War Memorial, Kilchattan Bay, Ballianlay, Ettrick Bay and Port Bannatyne.  Queen Brenda is Marie McGuire and others in the group include Charles Muir, Ranald McDonald, Robert Hunter and Janette Maltman. The Museum has a DVD of this event in its collection, sadly no sound. (P034195, B7.45)
