Description: A sword hilt from a Norwegian type sword. It is damaged, heavily corroded and the pommel is missing. However, x-rays, taken in 1977, showed markings which were interpreted as an inlay of copper or silver alloy, probably arranged in a chequerboard design.

Origin: The exact circumstances of the finding of the sword (over 100 years ago) are unclear but it was said to have been found in the Drumachloy Burn. It is possible that the burn eroded a Viking burial.
