Object: Presentation Quoit

Date: 19th century

Description: A silver-plated presentation quoit (one of a pair). Quoits was a game played using heavy metal discs which were thrown at a spike set in a square of moist clay. These quoits bear the inscription ‘Presented to J. Windsor Stuart Esq. Foley House by the members of the Rothesay quoiting club on the occasion of him opening the new playing green 22nd April 1899’. The presentation quoits are real quoits which have been plated and they weigh in at an impressive 3lbs (1360 gm.) each.
