This photograph of Montague Street shows it underwater in the late 1960s/early 1970s. Note the entrance to the Norman Stewart Institute in the top left corner. The money to erect this building was gifted by Norman Stewart who though born in Rothesay had emigrated to the USA and made his fortune. It was opened in 1885 and housed a library, reading room, billiards room, tearoom and restaurant. It was demolished in 1974 when it was deemed unsafe due to subsidence. (Rothesay) (P03-2768, B13-87)
