The Winter Garden was built in 1924 on the site of an old bandstand, part of which was incorporated into the new building. It could seat up to 1200 people and was a popular venue for variety shows, best known being the Rothesay Entertainers though other famous performers, including Harry Lauder graced its stage. The Winter Garden was also used for local productions including the productions of the Isle of Bute Musical Association. In the mid 1980s it became a heritage centre before being transformed into the local tourist information centre and a 100 seat cinema. (Rothesay),
