Object: Pointing Porter’s Badge

Description: Rothesay was unique in having ‘Pointing Porters’ who selected passengers as the steamer berthed at the pier and pointed to them. If the selected passenger pointed back then the deal was struck and the porter transported their luggage. Porters had to be licensed and they were issued with badges. There were 12 licenses issued in 1907 and No.1 was John Stewart of Staffa Place
