Object: Beggar’s Badge
Date: 19th c
Description: Badge entitling the wearer to beg. These badges were given out by the Kirk Session of the parish of Rothesay to deserving causes such as widows or people with a disability. In 1827, 100 badges were struck, of which 60 were issued. The badge was returned to the Kirk Session on the death of the wearer.
Origin: The museum has a collection of these badges which were donated by the High Kirk.
