Large numbers of duck including Mallard, Wigeon, Teal, Tufted Duck, Goldeneye and the odd Gadwall also winter here along with Moorhen and occasional Coot. It is one of the few sites on the island for Water Rail, a breeding species, and occasionally a rarity such as Great Egret, Scaup, Shoveler or Garganey (April 2000) can be found.
Other birds of interest observed around the Kirk Dam are Reed Bunting, Sedge Warbler, Grasshopper Warbler, Lesser Redpoll, Long-tailed Tit, Snipe, Grey Heron, Sand Martin, Swallow and Buzzard. It is also one of the favoured feeding waters for our resident Osprey’s and is a stopping off point for passing Kingfisher.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_map address=”Kirk Dam, Isle of Bute PA20, UK” address_lat=”55.818502″ address_lng=”-5.0655092″ _builder_version=”4.16″ hover_enabled=”0″ global_colors_info=”{}” sticky_enabled=”0″][et_pb_map_pin title=”Kirk Dam” pin_address=”Unnamed Road, Isle of Bute PA20, UK” zoom_level=”14″ pin_address_lat=”55.817730455119″ pin_address_lng=”-5.0657666920654″ _builder_version=”4.4.9″ global_colors_info=”{}” hover_enabled=”0″ sticky_enabled=”0″][/et_pb_map_pin][/et_pb_map][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]

Grid Ref- NS082626 How to get there The Kirk Dam is about a 2 miles from Rothesay.
